It started with a move to Cornwall
Steve Skinner founded Skinner’s Brewery in Truro in 1997, after moving from Jersey with his family, a love of brewing and an eye on Cornwall’s surf.
Beers such as Betty Stogs and Cornish Knocker helped establish the brewery’s identity: distinctive ales, colourful characters and a sense of humour that was unmistakably Skinner’s.
That combination found a home in Cornwall’s pubs and a following well beyond the county.
The characters behind the pints
Our beers have always had stories to tell. Their names and illustrations draw on Cornish folklore, coastal towns and local characters, giving each one a personality of its own.
There’s Betty Stogs, our much-loved Cornish bitter; Lushingtons, bringing a little sunshine to the bar; and Porthleven, named after the fishing harbour on Cornwall’s south coast.
Alongside the familiar favourites, seasonal beers give us and you something different to look forward to throughout the year.
A new chapter with Goodh
After Skinner’s closed in 2022, fellow independent Cornish brewery Goodh Brewing Co. acquired the business in 2023, bringing the beers back and beginning a new chapter.
Today, Skinner’s traditional ales sit alongside Goodh’s modern craft beers, with a shared team and a commitment to keeping both brands’ individual character.
For Skinner’s, that means continuing to brew the beers people know and love, welcoming back seasonal favourites and giving new drinkers the chance to discover them.
The story continues at The Tapyard
Our connection to Truro continues at The Tapyard Riverside, on the historic Skinner’s brewery site.
It’s a place to enjoy Skinner’s and Goodh beers alongside food, live music and events, and to meet the people who keep coming back.
