Type: Amber Ale
Smell: Light Malty Aroma
Taste: Malty, Floral, Grapefruit
Food: Stews, Pasties
Hops: Celeia, Auroa, Northdown
Malty | Floral | Bitter
Our Brewers Notes: With whole-flower Celeia, Northdown and Aurora hops alongside
malted barley and wheat, this is a Cornish twist on a classic smooth-drinking bitter. The light
malty aroma leads to a floral, cedar taste, and a sharp tang of bitter grapefruit leaves a
lasting impression; just like Betty herself…
Our Beer Name: The character of Betty Stogs emerges from Cornish folklore as a convivial
spirit – a woman who would go house-to-house on the Cornish Moors where she lived,
entertaining folk. The only problem was she did it as the expense of her poor baby, who she left unwashed and uncared for while she went about her wiley ways! Eventually the Cornish piskies carried the poor babe off. Lucky Betty Stogs found her child once more in the forest on a bed of moss, cleaned in the morning dew and cared for by the piskies and she vowed to become a more attentive parent. Like our award-winning amber-ale, Betty Stogs was full-bodied, a little bit fruity and the heart and soul of any party. The full-bodied, golden-hearted character of Betty Stogs marched straight out of Cornish folklore to take her throne as the Queen of Cornish amber ales.
